Framed in Zermatt

A painting and its frame should come from the same place. Ours do — in the valley’s own wood, or in metal cut to the canvas.

The Zermatt-wood frame

Every Pavlinsky original can be finished in a frame made from wood of the Zermatt valley. Native valley wood — larch, oak, pine or walnut — carries a warmth and density that mass-produced mouldings cannot, and each length is chosen for the individual painting, so that frame and canvas belong to one another rather than being matched after the fact. Frames are cut, joined and finished by hand in the village, in cooperation with Peter Rölli Zermatt — so a work need never leave the valley between the first brushstroke and the moment it reaches your wall.

The metal frame

For a more contemporary setting, a painting can be framed in metal by Heinz Julen, the widely recognised Zermatt artist and designer. The choice is brushed or polished inox, or matt black steel — a fine, architectural line rather than a moulding. Each profile is cut so that the depth of the frame matches the depth of the canvas, and the work sits flush and precise within it.

Choose the finish

Below, you can see either house on a painting — the wood or the metal — and settle on the one that belongs in your room. If you are unsure, we will advise: some works ask for the warmth of valley wood, others for the quiet edge of steel.

For collectors abroad

Originals ship worldwide, framed and crated to museum standard, or unframed where you prefer to work with your own framer. The choice of a Zermatt frame — in wood or metal — remains yours alone.
